A bold vision to reclaim JFK’s position as one of the world’s most iconic gateways by creating a powerful sense of place.
Woods Bagot was appointed by the operator of JFK’s Terminal 4 (JFKIAT) to analyze and develop a concept for the radical extension of the terminal over the sites of the demolished Terminal 3 and the in-use Terminals 1 and 2.
Talk to Andy Gentry about Aviation
Our concept extended one of T4’s existing concourses and added two more, thereby increasing the gate count by 31 wide-body aircraft positions and more than doubling the terminal processing capacity to 50 million passengers per year. We then developed an architectural concept to meet the aspirations of the Port Authority’s master plan. We also comprehensively re-imagined the land-side, increasing curbside capacity while introducing appropriate security setbacks. To support this, we developed a project branding and narrative, as well as extensive visualizations and video, all under challenging deadlines set by the Port Authority.
The concept design developed a unique and inspiring response to reclaim JFK’s position as one of the world’s most iconic gateways by creating a powerful sense of place that would represent New York City to the world and provided a passenger experience second to none. The concept was planned out to provide the capacity to meet the forecast demand at an optimum Level of Service while demonstrating that the project was viable, constructible and met new Port Authority standards.
