Local snapshot – Perth

At Woods Bagot, we pride ourselves on local knowledge with a global outlook. We know each of our studio’s cities like the back of our hands, and we love to share what makes them special.

Located in the heritage listed ‘Palace Hotel’ building in Perth’s CBD, Woods Bagot Perth is located on the traditional country of the Whadjuk Noongar people.

Working along the same timezone across Southeast and mainland Asia, Perth is positioned at the gateway to the Indian ocean rim – interlocking Asia with the Australian regions through clientele and project collaboration. Situated in an emerging contemporary city that blends urban and suburban lifestyle, the Perth studio also contributes to the landscape of its home city – commercially and socially.

Here’s Perth through the eyes of Interior Designer Erin Paterson.

Erin joined Woods Bagot in 2021 and has been working on multiple sectors from workplace, hospitality, hotel, to transport / aviation lounge projects. When she’s not crafting spectacular spaces by day, you can find Erin chasing sunset hues by night.

Macro photography is one of my favourites. A short walk from my apartment is Old Jacaranda Way, where in the Spring time the trees are blooming creating beautiful scenery when out for a stroll.

Only a short 45-minute drive inland from the city is Araluen Botanic Park – a lovely mixture of vibrancy and greenery. A personal favourite spot.

“The beaches in WA are very well-known and a favourite for the locals and visitors. As a sunset lover, the beach is my go-to, so if you can go at dusk or sunset, you are in for a treat.”

A glimpse through The Cadogan Song School’s sculptural arches and spiral stair by Palassis Architects.

A hidden tranquil gem in the upper Swan Valley is Bells Rapids. Home to walking trails, and stunning views of the hills and waterfalls – a picturesque spot, making you feel calm and in a state of relaxation amongst the trees and flowing water.

The stunning entry to the Woods Bagot studio, situated in the old Palace Building on the first floor with a shared mezzanine. Just behind the building is the striking South32 Building – creating a nice contrast of old and new.

“Perth’s central time zone location allows the studio to connect into many of our global studios – working on the best projects around the world. This global influence adds value to the projects we design for our local clients in Perth.”

Whimsical and charming is how you can describe the buildings in Fremantle and the atmosphere the city brings. A nice contrast from the business and tall, monolithic buildings in the inner city. Fremantle brings a refreshing and nostalgic taste to Perth.
