Woods Bagot boosts workplace interiors capability through Mitch James appointment

Woods Bagot has hired Mitch James as an Associate Principal in its London studio. Mitch will strengthen the studio’s Workplace Interiors design leadership and work closely with Principal Peter O’Donnell, who leads the firm’s sector offering in Europe and the Middle East.

A dynamic and experienced interior designer, Mitch possesses a passion for creating purposeful spaces imbued with thoughtful creativity. He has over 15 years of practice spanning workplace, retail, food and beverage, hospitality and hotel design, with his broad sector experience adding further depth to Woods Bagot’s commercial workplace design team in London.

At the start of his career, Mitch held design roles in Brisbane and Sydney before moving to the UK in 2014. He joins Woods Bagot from BDG Architecture + Design, where he was Creative Director responsible for driving design excellence, endorsing creative thinking and working closely with clients to develop and channel their creative vision into innovative design outcomes. During this time, Mitch delivered workplace architecture and design projects across Australasia and Europe in multiple sectors including tech, finance, entertainment and media.

“Woods Bagot is synonymous with great design and landmark projects,” says Mitch. “I’ve always been fascinated by human behaviour and how design has the capacity to influence the user experience and condition, so the human-centric approach of the firm’s projects also caught my eye. As the lines between sectors and disciplines continue to blur, joining a practice that can draw upon such impressive multi-sectorial experience was very appealing.”

Mitch continues: “I’m keen to champion and celebrate Woods Bagot’s rich and extensive history of design, as well as the breadth and depth of experience and talent both in our London studio and across our global network. There is clearly so much knowledge and skill in the business, and I’m keen to familiarise myself with all the fantastic work that is happening, the strategic insights that underpin and shape our design thinking and our vision for the future.”

“Mitch’s arrival strengthens our workplace interiors capabilities and design direction,” adds James Taylor, Woods Bagot Principal and London Studio Chair, “We are thrilled to add his collaborative, human-centric and sustainably minded design approach to our existing team.”
