InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach awarded its first MICHELIN Key

The Woods Bagot-designed beachfront hotel has been recognised among the world’s exceptional hospitality destinations.

InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach has been awarded its first MICHELIN Key, less than a year after reopening following a landmark transformation. Awarded by the MICHELIN Guide, MICHELIN Keys recognise hotels that deliver exceptional stays through outstanding architecture and interior design, service, character and a strong sense of place.

Delivered in partnership with IHG Hotels & Resorts and Salter Brothers, the transformation reimagined the former Coogee Beach Crowne Plaza hotel as a contemporary coastal sanctuary, balancing urban sophistication with the natural rhythm of the shoreline.

Woods Bagot Principal and Global Hospitality Leader Tracey Wiles said the recognition reflects the team’s ambition to create a hotel deeply connected to Coogee’s unique character.

“From the outset, our vision was to create a destination that celebrates the natural beauty, energy and lifestyle of Coogee while delivering the elevated experience expected of the InterContinental brand,” said Wiles.

“To see the hotel recognised with a MICHELIN Key is a testament to the strength of that vision and the collaboration between the design, ownership and operations teams.”

Drawing inspiration from the meeting of city and coastline, the refurbishment introduced a refined palette of travertine, marble and onyx alongside thoughtfully reimagined guest rooms, public spaces and hospitality experiences. Through careful spatial planning, materiality and the adaptive reuse of existing elements, the design creates a luxury experience that feels distinctly local, grounded and connected to its surroundings.

Reopened in December 2025, the hotel continues Woods Bagot’s partnership with IHG, following the award-winning refurbishment of InterContinental Sydney in 2022 and ahead of the 2027 launch of the InterContinental Brisbane Hotel.
