Journey Beyond has debuted the first of its highly anticipated Aurora and Australis suites to its fleet, introducing a new level of luxury to Australian cross-country travel.
Setting a new benchmark in cross-country travel, the architecturally-designed cabins and luxury amenities boast unprecedented generosity in space and proportions, unrivalled interiors the likes of the Orient Express, and a comprehensive service offering.
Designed by Woods Bagot, the carriages blend the elegance of Art Deco rail heritage with a uniquely Australian vein of luxury.
Woods Bagot Director Rosina Di Maria says the design references Australia’s pastoral history, acknowledging the contributions of wool and leather merchants.
“The luxury interiors are characterised by an artisanal, heritage-driven approach to detail and meticulous craftsmanship,” says Di Maria.
“Featuring a palette of decorative timber, stone surfaces, and accents of sheepskin and leather, the interiors create a rich and layered experience that reflects both heritage and landscape.”
Handcrafted glass dividers and timber joinery evoke old-world luxury in the Art Deco tradition of decorative geometries, blended with a contemporary outback opulence.
Inviting reverence for the landscapes traversed by the trains, the interior palette reference the geological and celestial tones of the Australian outback.
Journey Beyond Chief Executive Chris Tallent says the launch marks a defining moment for Australian experiential travel, celebrating the most significant evolution in the organisation’s onboard offering.
“Our iconic trains have long connected guests with some of the country’s most extraordinary landscapes, and these suites elevate that experience to an entirely new level,” says Tallent.
“They offer guests a private sanctuary on board, a place to unwind and fully immerse themselves in the journey across this remarkable continent.”
Elevated interiors complement improved off-train itinerary, inviting travellers to experience curated moments in extraordinary landscapes.
The Aurora and Australis suites will be joining the Indian Pacific, Great Southern, and The Ghan. As the largest onboard offering, the Australis Suites are three times the size of the existing Platinum cabins, while the Aurora Suites are double.
With over 95 percent of departures sold out for the 2026 season, the onboard journey promises to be as memorable as the destination.
