Woods Bagot hosts RIBA Hong Kong Chapter’s inaugural committee meeting

Woods Bagot’s Hong Kong Studio hosted the inaugural meeting of the newly appointed committee of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Hong Kong Chapter, bringing together chapter leaders and members to mark the start of the committee’s new term and an important milestone in the chapter’s ongoing role within the region’s architectural community.

The meeting was hosted by Christopher Lye, Principal at Woods Bagot and Honorary Secretary of the RIBA Hong Kong Chapter, who welcomed members and guests and highlighted the value of convening professional dialogue within a shared studio environment. 

“It is a privilege to host the RIBA Hong Kong Chapter’s inaugural committee meeting at Woods Bagot,” said Christopher Lye. “The chapter represents a shared commitment to architectural excellence, professional leadership and meaningful exchange across Hong Kong and the wider region.”

Celia Lai, Chair of the RIBA Hong Kong Chapter, outlined the committee’s vision for the term ahead. 

“As Chair, I aim to lead a collaborative, inclusive and transparent chapter that connects architects, amplifies our collective voice and champions design excellence in Hong Kong and the wider region.” 

Opening remarks were delivered by Dr Valerie VaughanDick, Chief Executive Officer of RIBA, who reaffirmed RIBA’s commitment to supporting the Hong Kong Chapter’s work and regional engagement. 

It was an enormous pleasure to attend the launch of the new RIBA Hong Kong Chapter Committee earlier this week, representing our largest membership group outside the UK.  My congratulations go to Celia and all new committee members, and I very much look forward to meeting you all in person at the end of the year. Our Chapters are the lifeblood of RIBA, and I am excited see this one go from strength to strength.”

The programme also featured remarks from Belinda IrlamMowbray, Executive Director, Membership Experience, Emma England, Head of International Membership and Dr Ruffina Thilakaratne, RIBA’s International Council Member, Asia and Australasia Region who emphasised the importance of member engagement, professional development and inclusive leadership. Representatives from the RIBA Singapore, China and Gulf Chapters joined the meeting online, reinforcing the value of crossregional connectivity and shared learning.
