Mason and Main: NSW’s largest build-to-rent development marks milestone

Attending the the official opening event for Stage One of Coronation Property’s Mason and Main, Woods Bagot director and global design leader Domenic Alvaro and associate Hugh Thomson, celebrated a significant milestone for this groundbreaking project in the heart of Merrylands.

As NSW’s largest Build-to-Rent (BTR) development, Mason and Main is set to welcome its first residents in May. This $250 million project is introducing 434 new apartments to the market, a significant addition at a time when development approvals have plummeted and the national rental vacancy rate stands at a record low of 1.07 percent.

Coronation’s Managing Director Joseph Nahas says, “Mason & Main Stage One is the first of Coronation’s BTR projects to be delivered in NSW and showcases our commitment to designing and building beautiful new communities in prime locations close to schools, shops, parks and transport.”

Woods Bagot, engaged for concept design, researched into future trends of living and working that has led to the design of flexible apartments. Domenic Alvaro shared in an interview with Mason & Main, “As Western Sydney continues its rise, it’s important to consider how developments can stitch into a suburb’s existing grain. In the case of Mason & Main, we’ve repositioned the ground level café and retail spaces to face outwards into the paths that run throughout the site – creating an activated laneway culture for residents and pedestrians to explore and relax in.”

Associate and architect Hugh Thomson explains, “This project has been an exciting opportunity to bring an incredible amount of amenity and a quality design outcome to one of Western Sydney’s most neglected LGAs. I’m looking forward to seeing the Merrylands community start to occupy these spaces and bring them to life and hope that this project can set a benchmark for future high quality, community minded, re-development in the area.”
