Organised by The Urban Developer, the Urban Leader Awards recognise the individuals behind the ideas and projects shaping Australian cities.

Finalists have been announced across eighteen categories, with every submission assessed against six weighted criteria: leadership, growth, innovation, responsibility, bravery and distinction.

A spokesperson for the Urban Developer said that while the industry often recognises the buildings making up our cities, we rarely celebrate the stalwart individuals, policymakers and creative minds that produce them. “Every award is made to the person, not the project or the company.”

Woods Bagot Director Peter Miglis has been shortlisted for the Architecture and Design category, recognising individuals or groups of individuals that are responsible for the design of projects that demonstrate excellence in the built environment.

His empathetic, people-centric approach has been recognised by his clients and contemporaries alike, his passion and enthusiasm earning him a reputation as a natural industry spokesperson.

With a portfolio of over 40 delivered projects transcending sectors, scales, typologies, states, and country borders, Miglis’s work has received national and international recognition for its craft, progressiveness, and advancements in sustainability. Known for his work in adaptive reuse and urban regeneration, Miglis has demonstrated how existing buildings and precincts can be reimagined to support contemporary needs while retaining cultural significance and emplaced history.

Miglis has served on numerous juries and design panels, furthering the architectural agenda and raising public awareness for the value of good design. Celebrated for his business acumen and contributions to culture, his legacy includes enduring client relationships that have been nurtured over decades.

A total of 160 leaders has been shortlisted this year, spanning developers, builders, architects, planners, engineers, financiers, marketers and government leaders.

Winners will be announced at a gala event at Four Seasons Sydney on Thursday, October 22.
