Woods Bagot’s Xuanwu Garden City Shortlisted for MIPIM Asia 2025

We are proud to announce that Nanjing China Merchants Xuanwu Garden City, a new 465,000 sqm TOD landmark designed by Woods Bagot, has been selected as a Finalist for the 2025 MIPIM Asia Awards in the “Best Mixed-Use Development” category. The project will contend for the gold, silver, and bronze awards at the gala dinner in Hong Kong on December 4.

Woods Bagot provided an integrated service package encompassing master planning, architecture, and interior design for this mixed-use development, creating a destination that is innovative, community-focused, and highly livable.

Inspired by the nearby Zijin Mountain Observatory, the design takes visitors on a captivating journey through the cosmos. It is organized into four core projects – Jiangsu Center, Xuanwu Garden City, Service Apartments, and the Zhuangguanli retail street – which create the “super core” of the new Xuanwu.

The complex forms an efficient TOD network, seamlessly connecting with Metro Lines 6 & 9 via a continuous commercial flow at the B1 level. A multi-level entrance system breaks traditional boundaries, ensuring prime access from both above and below ground to enhance visitor flow and brand engagement.

From the dynamic “Interstellar Station” entertainment hub to the sustainable “Gourmet High Street” and the family-friendly “Starlight Park,” each wing offers a unique experience. At the heart of the project, the “Interstellar Stage” atrium – flooded with natural light – serves as a central venue for immersive events.

Additional features include a naked-eye 3D giant screen, a starry sky garden, and a rooftop observatory weaving together technology, nature, and art into a sustainable urban narrative. Pet-friendly and cycling-friendly designs further introduce a more inclusive lifestyle to Nanjing.

Congratulations to the entire project team and our visionary client for collaborating on this interstellar wonder.

“It is an honor to lead our team in creating a landmark project in my hometown, introducing new lifestyles and contributing to Nanjing’s ongoing renewal,” reflects Director Pearl Huang. “We’ve crafted a narrative – a celestial journey that begins at the observatory and unfolds into a vibrant, future-facing urban experience. It’s all about connecting people to place through the powerful themes of discovery and wonder.”
