World’s best awards for three Woods Bagot projects at WAF

In an “extraordinary” result, Woods Bagot has won four World Architecture Festival awards, cementing its position as one of the world’s leading design practices. Meadowbank Schools in western Sydney won Best School and Best Use of Colour; Best Mixed-Use Building went to Melbourne CBD development 80 Collins Street, while quietly spectacular Sculptform Design Studio won Best (INSIDE) Small Workplace.

New City of London tower plans revealed

History is at the heart of plans submitted by Woods Bagot for a new mixed-use tower in the ancient core of central London. The development by Hertshten Properties adjoins 15th century Leadenhall Market and is being advocated as a catalyst for its revival. Key project features include a ground-floor public hall and event space, a heritage garden with multi-purpose cultural space and 35,000sqm of Grade A office space.

Grand designs at Caulfield Racecourse 

Melbourne Racing Club has appointed Woods Bagot to lead the redevelopment of Caulfield Racecourse grandstand. “Our ambition is to re-create the Caulfield experience for the next generation,” says Woods Bagot Principal Sarah Ball.  “We want to imbue the best qualities of a horse race into the architecture; brought to life through characterful and activated spaces that capture the imagination of visitors,” says Ball.

Latest in wellness design – Minthis Spa opens in Cyprus

One of the Mediterranean’s most impressive wellness sanctuaries has opened at Minthis Hills, the flagship luxury lifestyle resort created by Cypriot developer Pafilia. The Woods Bagot design of Minthis Spa takes inspiration from the surrounding Troodos Mountains blending the restorative power of local herbs and minerals with contemporary science to rejuvenate and restore.

Down by the river – Nanjing Retail Street

For its latest China project, Nanjing Yicheng West Wuhuali Retail Street, Woods Bagot has used the Qinhuai River – “lifeblood” of the southeast Chinese city – as the design narrative and inspiration. Its masterplan covers gross floor area of more than 50,000sqm and has just won the Best Futura Project at the MIPIM Asia Awards. Work is scheduled to start next year.

Woods Bagot dream team Domenic Alvaro and Tracey Wiles have combined to design the stunning new Kew Hillcrest residences at Rose Bay in Sydney’s affluent east. Understated simplicity is central to the design – a luxury reinvention and extension of an historic 19th century villa with incredible views of Sydney Harbour looking back to the city – seamlessly combining history with modern living.
