Andy Gentry appointed Public Architecture juror for VIC Chapter Awards

Woods Bagot Delivery Leader Andy Gentry has been selected as Public Architecture juror for the 2026 Australian Institute of Architects’ Victorian Chapter Awards.

The Public Architecture category recognises completed, high-quality, non-residential buildings designed for public or institutional use.

As a juror, Gentry brings his 30 years’ industry experience across public, commercial, transport, and aviation sectors, having headed up some of Woods Bagot’s largest, most complex projects.

Over the course of his career, Andy has led major public developments such as Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (2010 AIA Public Architecture Winner), Margaret Court Arena (2014 AIA Public Architecture Winner), and Urban Workshop at 50 Lonsdale Street (2006 AIA Melbourne Prize Winner).

“The Australian Institute of Architects’ Chapter and National Awards are our industry’s most prestigious awards programs, with each project assessed by a panel of industry peers,” says Gentry.

“It’s a great honour to contribute to a legacy of transparent assessment, rigorous analysis and peer review, which continues to promote excellence and accountability within our built environment.”

Gentry’s fellow jurors include: Hamish Lyon from NH Architecture (Jury Chair), Veryan Curnow from Jackson Clements Burrows, and When Zhu from Hayball (Graduate Juror).

Presentations to juries will take place on 21 and 23 March 2026, after which the jury will determine a shortlist in each category. Shortlisted projects will require onsite visits, after which a category winner for the state will be announced at the awards presentation event on 19 June.

All winners at state level will automatically progress into the Institute’s National Awards program, with winners announced in October.

Last year’s named prize for Public Architecture, The Sir Zelman Cowen Award, went to Yarrila Place by BVN. The National Awards for the category went to the Eva and Marc Besen Centre by Kerstin Thompson Architects and Truganina Community Centre by Jasmax (Canvas Projects)
