Our first example of applying the standardised planning grid and hub layouts within a High School, using natural materials to reflect the dramatic location.
Wentworth High School is a Stream 9 urban school for 1,500 students located within a dense precinct near Sydney Olympic Park. The project incorporates School Infrastructure NSW’s standardised grid and learning hubs, developed in response to Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) guidelines created by Woods Bagot.
Talk to Sarah Ball about Education and Science
Designed for efficiency and adaptability, the school addresses the challenges of vertical learning environments while enabling key facilities—including a soccer field, hall, and amenities—to be shared with the wider community. Careful planning provides separate community and school access while maintaining security for students and assets.
The design was developed through extensive engagement with the NSW Government Architect, State Design Review Panel, and Transport for NSW. A strong Connecting with Country response draws inspiration from the open skies and horizons of the Parramatta River basin. Natural anodised façades reflect the changing sky, while a distinctive podium expression and green glazed tiles create a tactile, civic presence within the streetscape.
