A mixed-use precinct that aims to be a benchmark for development in a new era in the Greater Bay Area.
The Shimao Shenkong International Centre in Longgang District is located close to the Shenzhen University Sports Centre and set between the lush greenery of Longcheng Park and Dayun National Park. The site marks the point where three subway lines meet, creating a transportation hub.
Talk to Paolo Testolini about Mixed Use
The project’s aim was to turn Shimao’s vision into reality, by fostering commercial vitality and creating a fully integrated liveable environment in the new heart of Shenzhen. The project will transform the skyline of Shenzhen, bringing with it a 700-meter super-tall tower destined to be one of tallest towers in the world on completion. The unique site will also see four additional office and residential towers, a distinctive lifestyle retail mall, a cultural and entertainment hub and various art and gallery spaces. Woods Bagot was responsible for masterplanning the project and is currently responsible for the architecture design of a 250-metre office tower and its lifestyle retail mall. The design philosophy was influenced by the project’s natural surroundings and that of Longgang District, where mountains and water lie both to the north and south of the site. With inspiration taken from traditional Chinese paintings, the design approach began by looking at the urban context but also by integrating the development into the city’s natural landscape. The idea of “Integrating Nature to Redefine the City’s Soul” would define and become a key aspect of the project.
