The Australian Bragg Centre for Proton Therapy & Research (ABCPTR) is the development of a new clinical and research facility in the Adelaide CBD. Located within Adelaide’s BioMed City precinct adjacent to SAHMRI, The Australian Bragg Centre for Proton Therapy & Research will provide additional research laboratories and a world class cancer treatment centre. ABCPTR will further elevate North Terrace as a world leading health and biomedical research precinct.

Project details

The new facility will incorporate a Proton Therapy Unit (PTU), which is intended to be the first of its kind in Australia. The Plaza level will serve as a mediator between the PTU areas on the lower levels and the dry laboratories on the upper floors. The dry laboratories will accommodate clinical trials, third party research and commercial tenants. The design of the dry laboratory spaces has been driven by providing flexible/adaptive workspaces, a hierarchy of internal work areas, inter-floor connections (both physical and visual) via the incorporation of a primary north Atrium and preservation of key sight-lines and visual connections from the building floor plate to its surrounding context. The integration of built form and landscape will result in a variety of public and private spaces that remain porous and inviting whilst ensuring privacy is given to the specialist clinical functions taking place within the building. ABCPTR is targeting a LEED Gold Rating under the US Green Building Council’s LEED rating system, the international green building certification program that recognises best-in-class building strategies and practices.
