About Flora Feng

Flora Feng is a Senior Associate based in Woods Bagot’s Shanghai Studio.

When asked what inspired Flora to become an architect, she said, “It all started when I was a high school student, not yet 18 years old. At the time, I thought being an architect was a fascinating profession that constantly produced new, creative ideas. Even though I’ve been working as an architect for 13 years, I still find the work challenging on a daily basis.”

What has been the highlight in your career so far?

These days, I am very excited to work on large-scale Mixed Use projects, and for the past two years, I have been involved with the Nanjing China Merchants Garden City project.

This is a fantastic project that spans four plots of land and includes a mix of a shopping center, office buildings, apartments, a hotel, a commercial street, and the creation of public space in the urban green corridor. The most challenging aspect of this project for me was working at the limits of multitasking, but it was also the most satisfying.

If you could give advice to anyone, especially young women, looking into a similar field or career path, what would you give?

To meet the challenges of every day, we must keep our positivity and openness.

What does #EmbraceEquity mean to you?

The architectural industry used to be a male-dominated field, but today, from schools of architecture and design to architectural firms, more female architects are taking on leadership roles with increased support from inside and out. There is a sense of rising equity, which really encourages me and my fellow peers.
