Three projects selected for Dezeen Longlist

Three Woods Bagot projects have been selected for the Dezeen Longlist alongside 259 of the world’s best buildings.

The Dezeen Awards is an annual awards competition that celebrates excellence in architecture, interiors, and design worldwide. Now in its eighth edition, the 2025 Dezeen Awards garnered over 4,300 entries from 89 countries across six continents.

262 longlisted projects are vying for accolades in 17 different architecture categories, completed by studios located in 56 different countries. Longlisted projects will now be assessed by a prestigious panel of international judges, following which a shortlist will be announced in October this year.

Central Station and Morley Ellenbrook Line Project have been shortlisted for the “Infrastructure and Transport” category. Younghusband Woolstore has been shortlisted for “Heritage”.

Woods Bagot has redeveloped the historic Younghusband Woolstore in Kensington as a mixed-use urban village in Melbourne, Australia.

In a prime example of urban regeneration in practice, Woods Bagot has reimagined over 17,000 square metres of underutilised former industrial landscape, transforming it into a thriving urban village.

This project is informed by the pillars of Heritage, Community and Sustainability, creating a mixed-use precinct for the people of Kensington that is highly sustainable and celebrates the site’s emplaced heritage.

Using a ‘light touch’ methodology, architects have retained and restored much of the existing heritage, while new insertions are contemporary yet complementary, resulting in a highly functional built form that is rich with personality and patina.

Woods Bagot, in collaboration with John McAslan + Partners, have redeveloped and redesigned Central Station, Australia’s largest train station, in Sydney, Australia.

Servicing 96 percent of Sydney’s train services, Central Station forms the backbone of the entire network. The new metro interchange required spatially and structurally efficient design, with sophisticated multilevel passenger flow strategies.

A dramatic new main entrance for the imposing early 20th-century edifice incorporates a distinctive 50-metre-span vaulted roof.

The Clock Tower, the original canopied concourse and Edwardian architecture remain iconic, while contemporary interventions elevate its historic status.

In addition, the bold architecture of the original structure dovetails with equally bold 21st-century interventions, accommodating up to 450,000 daily passengers.

Designed with the future in mind, the redevelopment serves additional urban regeneration outcomes.

Woods Bagot, TRCB, TCL and UDLA have collaborated on the Metronet Morley-Ellenbrook Line, a transformative transport project in Perth, Australia.

Delivering five new stations and precincts in Perth and valued at $1.65 billion (AUD), this project spans 21 kilometres of new rail through the city’s growing northeast suburbs.

Inherently public in nature, the five stations have a cohesive line-wide identity representing a thoughtful integration of civic architecture within Perth’s suburban landscape.

With a 120-year design life, the stations provide resilient infrastructure that will support the communities in this region for generations.

This project sets new sustainability benchmarks for rail infrastructure globally and supports master plans that will enable growth and densification.
