The shortlist for the 22nd annual Interior Design Awards included 30 projects in the Workplace Design Category, of which two projects were designed by Woods Bagot.
The Australian Interior Design Awards recognise and celebrate interior design excellence via a credible, industry-based program, backed by the peak professional body representing Australian designers.
This year’s shortlist features an impressive 195 projects across seven categories, which reflect a unique narrative of the current industry landscape, highlighting “athenticity, bold character, and groundbreaking material innovation”, the jury said.
Two Woods Bagot projects have been shortlisted for the “Workplace Design” category of the 2025 Australian Interior Design Awards: BHP Perth Office Fitout and Deloitte Adelaide.
Woods Bagot and Deloitte have created a workspace that positions the organisation for the future with an interior scheme that is deeply emblematic of South Australian industry and innovation. On the banks of the Karrawirra Parri (Torrens River) in Adelaide’s Festival Tower, the workplace captures organic forms, unadulterated materials, and wine-stained pigments that reference local landscape and industry.
“Embodying the universal values of Deloitte whilst celebrating local context, the latest workplace in the Deloitte portfolio boasts the highest standards in wellness, inclusivity, sustainability and technological innovation,” says Woods Bagot Principal Rosina Di Maria.
“Conceived as a living landscape, the interior design imitates the topography of the Adelaide ranges, with base palette of grey washed oak,” adds Senior Associate Bonnie Hamilton. “Organic forms and unadulterated materials reference the terra of the Barossa Valley, while purplish accents reference South Australian viticulture industry, mimicking the grape-stained pigment left on hands during vintage.”
Setting a new benchmark in sustainable workplace design, Deloitte Adelaide is 6-star Green Star, 5.5 NABERS and Platinum WELL certified. The project pioneered the use of recycled PET bottles for signage while 70 percent of furniture has been reused from Deloitte’s interstate offices.
The workplace transformation involved a complete shift in structure, replacing traditional office layouts with interconnected ‘villages’ designed to foster collaboration and enhance employee engagement.
The introduction of interconnecting staircases between floors transforms the space, encouraging fluid movement and enhancing collaboration across all levels. This re-configuration evolves the workplace into a dynamic ecosystem that prioritises personal interaction, accessibility and a deep sense of community.
Woods Bagot’s design team have completely repositioned the workplace to align with BHP’s values and culture, creating an inspiring environment that blends BHP’s heritage with innovation, prioritising collaboration and a people-centric design. By balancing cultural integrity, functionality and environmental responsibility the project creates a workplace that reflects BHP’s people and commitment to sustainability while delivering strong financial and operational value. The result is a workplace that redefines responsible design where culture, sustainability, innovation and people come together to create a holistic working environment.
Aligned with BHP’s values, the project prioritises sustainability by minimising environmental impact and maximising reuse opportunities. Targeting a 6-Star Green Star Interiors rating and a 5-Star NABERS Energy rating, the design incorporates energy-efficient solutions and biophilic elements.
The Australian Interior Design Awards are co-presented by the Design Institute of Australia and InteriorsAu. The Workplace Design category is supported by Laminex. See the full gallery of shortlisted projects on the Australian Interior Design Awards website.
