Director Pearl Huang invited to SU awards ceremony and festival

DJSER initiated the “Revive City Festival” and SU Awards Ceremony on the lawn of Yuyuan Road, Shanghai.

This event brought together nature and architecture, providing a unique opportunity to experience the charm of urban renewal and regeneration in a relaxed atmosphere. Pearl Huang, Director and Shanghai Studio Chair at Woods Bagot, was invited to attend and engage in discussions with industry professionals, exploring the topic of urban regeneration.

“Urban renewal projects often carry the history and context of a city. Our focus lies in how we can reflect local culture through design, resonate with the local community, and achieve a harmonious blend of historical heritage and contemporary lifestyles. As designers of urban renewal, we strive to strike a balance between preservation and innovation, creating spaces that cater to the specific needs of diverse stakeholders. ” Shared Pearl, “Only by delving into the spirit of the city and respecting local culture, we can truly embody the essence of urban renewal.”

During the event, Pearl, representing the Tianjin Jinmao Plaza project team, was also honored with the Project of Excellence Certificate for Jinmao Plaza at the SU Award, a sister award of CREDAWARD (China Real Estate Design Award) with a specific focus on urban renewal in China.

As one of Woods Bagot’s best adaptive reuse practices in China region, Tianjin Jinmao Plaza sets the benchmark for integrated transformations encompassing architecture, interiors, and brand planning. The project’s approach is to maximize the preservation of the original architectural framework, historical brick facades, coal hopper clusters, and magnificent interior spatial structures. Historical elements find new functions and missions within the framework of modern commerce, intertwining with the newly constructed five-story structure to create a multifaceted commercial complex that combines business, ecology, culture, and education.
