Urban regeneration, retail and office projects recognized among China’s best architectural designs
Future Project – urban regeneration/renovation
This 220,000 sqm urban regeneration creates an open-air museum district blending century-old heritage with modern vibrancy, transforming the historic thoroughfare into a dynamic cultural hub. The two-phase development carefully balances preservation and progress – Phase 1 establishes a TOD business district with Grade A offices, while Phase 2 protects the area’s cultural legacy. Honoring Duolun Road’s original fishbone structure, the design weaves contemporary interventions through Shanghai’s architectural history, setting a new standard for urban renewal where immersive public spaces connect the neighborhood’s past to its future.
Comprehensive commercial project – retail street
A seven-year-crafted retail landmark harmonizing Suzhou’s gardens with contemporary design, this 140,000 sqm mixed-use destination reflects the city’s artistic traditions while setting a new benchmark for high-end commercial experiences. The development introduces over 200 brands – 70% new to Suzhou or China – alongside innovative features like its signature 3D vertical garden. More than just a shopping destination, it has become a cultural hub hosting dynamic events while offering spaces for both social connection and quiet retreats, already attracting millions of visitors since its opening.
Future Project – office
Comprehensive commercial project – office building
Nearing completion, this sleek office tower draws inspiration from Wuhan’s iconic Yellow Crane Tower, blending traditional motifs with contemporary design. The 200-meter landmark bridges the riverfront and business district, offering flexible workspaces, sunken plazas, and sky decks that foster collaboration. More than just offices, it creates a vibrant ecosystem where commerce meets culture, complete with premium amenities designed to support Wuhan’s growth as a global business hub.
These nominations reflect our commitment to design that respects local context while pushing boundaries, Woods Bagot is honoured to collaborate with visionary clients on projects that will shape these cities for generations.
