Hotels and Workplaces headline Woods Bagot project shortlistings at ‘Inside World Festival of Interiors’

Hotels and Workplaces led the way as four projects by architecture studio Woods Bagot were shortlisted at Inside World Festival of Interiors, which celebrates the world’s finest examples of interior design.

InterContinental Sydney, The Continental Sorrento, the new M&C Saatchi Group headquarters Sydney and Convene at 22 Bishopsgate in London all made the initial cut.

‘Inside’ is the sister event to the World Architecture Festival (WAF), the largest live global event for architects and designers, which is being held in Singapore from November 29 to December 1 this year.

Interior designers from Woods Bagot and other shortlisted studios across 11 categories will present their design case to a live jury at Marina Bay Sands, who will take that presentation and the formal entry into account before determining winners.

Woods Bagot has a further four architecture projects nominated at the main WAF awards.

Here are Inside World Festival of Interiors shortlistings designed by Woods Bagot.

InterContinental Sydney – Hotels

Woods Bagot transformed InterContinental Sydney in a top-to-bottom redesign of the five-star property across guest rooms, public areas, hospitality and bar venues. Key was integrating and enhancing the three-level Treasury Building, built in 1851, and a 32-level tower completed in 1985. Woods Bagot took a bold approach, flooding rooms with the blues and greens of sub-tropical Sydney. “The heritage architecture gave us a beautiful palette of colours, textures and classic geometries,” says Woods Bagot Principal Tracey Wiles.

The Continental Sorrento, Mornington Peninsula – Hotels

An epic reinvention by Woods Bagot of Victorian seaside glamour on the Mornington Peninsula near Melbourne. The ‘Conti’ encompasses the existing 1875 heritage hotel, a 1930s addition and four new buildings. Highlights include the InterContinental Sorrento hotel, Aurora Spa and Bathhouse, fine dining and casual dining fit outs for restaurateurs Craig Shearer and Scott Pickett’s latest offerings, and a restored ballroom. The design combines the comfort of nostalgia with the spirit of a modern grandeur create a unique multi-faceted venue.

M&C Saatchi, Sydney – Workplace (Large)

It’s the ultimate post-pandemic office refit and rebuild. Woods Bagot took three floors of a 1938 art deco office building, Transport House, and brought them into the 21st century, enabling client M&C Saatchi Group to consolidate its workforce in a single location. Work included the construction of two new internal staircases to achieve the  primary goal of better flow and connectivity while adding collaboration, hospitality and quiet space. “It’s a story of origins, modernity and a celebration of character,” says Project Leader Jordan Schumacher.

Convene at 22 Bishopsgate, London – Workplace (Large)

Inspired by the concept of ‘Modern Livery’, Woods Bagot led the interior design for Convene’s first premium meetings, events, and workspace outside the United States. The design reflects a mix of traditional architecture, the history of Bishopsgate in central London, and the modern cultural influence of local contemporary street artist Ben Eine. It brings together the old and new, the clean and decorative, providing a platform for creators and innovators over 50,000 sq ft of state-of-the-art event spaces.
