Loreto College appoints Woods Bagot to shape bold new masterplan

Woods Bagot brings global design expertise to reimagine Loreto College for the next generation of learners.

Loreto College Marryatville has appointed global architecture and design firm Woods Bagot to develop a visionary new College Master Plan, marking an exciting new chapter in the school’s 120-year history.

The project will reimagine the College campus for the next generation of Loreto students, responding to strong enrolment growth and long-term strategic goals. The Master Plan will provide a blueprint for strategic investment and development over the next decade and beyond, ensuring Loreto College Marryatville continues to deliver a student-centred learning environment that reflects its heritage and values while embracing a bold future.

The new Master Plan will guide the College’s capital works program, exploring opportunities to enhance educational and boarding facilities, expand early learning and junior school offerings, improve sport and wellbeing precincts, and integrate sustainable design and emerging technologies, and reinvigorate existing assets or rebuild where greater potential and utilisation exist.

Loreto College Principal, Ms Kylie McCullah, said the appointment of Woods Bagot signals an important step forward in shaping the College’s future.

“In 2025 as we celebrate 120 years of Loreto College Marryatville, we are looking boldly to the future,” says McCallah. “Our partnership with Woods Bagot to design the new Master Plan is an opportunity to redefine how young people learn, connect, and flourish — ensuring our students are ready to create the world ahead.”

Founded in Adelaide more than 150 years ago, Woods Bagot brings its global expertise and local insight to the partnership, aligning with Loreto’s 120-year legacy in South Australia and shared commitment to education, community and innovation.

As Adelaide-born studio now backed by a global network of value-based workplaces, Woods Bagot has shaped the Adelaide built environment for over 150 years, with significant projects including South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), 83 Pirie Street, the recently-opened Eighty Eight O’Connell Street, and the Market Square redevelopment of the Adelaide Central Market, which is currently under construction.

Woods Bagot Director and proud Loreto alumna Rosina Di Maria says the organisations’ shared values will underlie the collaboration on a masterplan that continues to support the school’s evolving agenda.

“Loreto College has always been defined by its spirit, sense of community, and values-based approach to education — empowering girls to lead with confidence, self-belief, and purpose,” says Di Maria. “Like Loreto, Woods Bagot is a values-led organisation with a strong commitment to collaboration and creating lasting value for the communities we serve.”

Woods Bagot Principal Alex Hall adds the design team will draw from a successful portfolio of city-shaping urban regeneration and education projects to produce a masterplan that is finely attuned to its users and can support the school’s endurance for decades to come.

“Together, we can harness the transformative potential of good design to deliver a sustainable and sophisticated campus — one that not only reflects Loreto’s enduring vision but also lays the foundation for future opportunities,” says Hall. “This master plan is about more than buildings; it’s about shaping an environment that supports learning, wellbeing, and leadership for generations to come.”

Building on recent campus upgrades, the new masterplan will ensure Loreto College remains at the forefront of educational design, creating spaces that reflect the spirit of its founders while meeting the aspirations of future generations.

The masterplan is expected to be completed in April 2026, with community consultation and implementation to follow in staged phases.
