John Prentice shortlisted for the 2025 Urban Leaders Award

Woods Bagot Principal and Global Transport Leader John Prentice has been shortlisted for the prestigious Architecture & Design category in The Urban Developer’s second annual Urban Leaders Awards.

The Urban Leaders Awards recognise individuals who are driving change and actively shaping the future of Australia’s cities, with this year’s finalists representing an exceptional calibre of leadership across the property sector.

With 25 years of global experience as an Architect and Urban Designer, Prentice is distinguished by his innovative approach to transforming critical infrastructure into culturally sensitive, empathetic designs that serve as lasting community legacies. As Principal at Woods Bagot and Sydney Studio Hub leader, he heads the largest segment of the business while steering the firm’s global transport initiatives.

Prentice’s portfolio includes some of Australia’s most awarded architectural projects, notably his work redefining iconic national landmarks such as Sydney’s Central Station Metro and Crows Nest Metro Stations, Nan Tien, and 25 Martin Place.

What sets Prentice apart is his willingness to challenge design conventions and push forward better solutions, even when they diverge from the traditional approach. His leadership style is characterised by courage and vision, ensuring that business growth aligns with purpose, equity, and responsibility.

Prentice champions sustainability through both social and environmental lenses, recognising that architectural decisions have far-reaching consequences for people, communities, and environments. His approach integrates environmental responsibility with social equity, understanding that truly sustainable design must address the full spectrum of human and ecological needs.

His commitment to diversity, inclusion, and work-life balance reflects a core belief that culture matters as much as technical craft. This philosophy extends to his client relationships, which he builds on foundations of trust, respect, and shared ambition.

For Prentice, professional legacy extends far beyond individual projects. This philosophy drives his dedication to multiplying knowledge, promoting others, and actively shaping the future of the architecture & design industry.

The winners of the 2025 Urban Leaders Awards will be unveiled at a gala event in Sydney on October 30, when the industry will gather to celebrate the individuals behind the projects and ideas that are transforming urban development across Australia.
