Elevating prime office spaces to enrich a historic icon and unlock the potential of an evolving urban landscape.
Located in the heart of Düsseldorf’s Central Business District, the existing building at Kasernenstrasse 6 is a 1980 extension to the historic Wilhelm Marx Haus, one of Europe’s earliest tall buildings.
Talk to James Taylor about Workplace Architecture
The planned traffic calming of Heinrich-Heine-Platz opens up a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create real value for Düsseldorf and its residents. Building on this vision, and addressing the practical need to expand the delivery zone for the future KaDeWe department store, we have joined forces with our local partners Ehrich Architekten to deliver not just functional improvements, but an elegant architectural statement.
At the Kasernenstrasse junction, former service access and a poorly lit colonnade will be transformed into lively gastronomy spaces, creating a welcoming and distinctive entrance to the workplace destination above. Atop the existing building at Kasernenstrasse 6, new office space will be complemented by generous loggias and a green rooftop landscape, offering future tenants a workspace that blends comfort, nature, and productivity.
By matching the surrounding rooflines, the project completes the streetscape with a confident yet harmonious presence.
The existing building, once home to an internal theatre space, features a deep floor plan and outdated circulation layout. In response, we have developed a contemporary workplace concept that makes use of the depth of the plan and vertically connects the office floors, unlocking the building’s potential.
