Herbert Smith Freehills Perth

Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) was the first legal firm to take an office on St Georges Terrace, traditionally Perth’s premier business address.

Eighteen years later, it has once again led the way with its move to Elizabeth Quay, a new mixed-use waterfront precinct on the Swan River, taking two floors of the 29-storey tower One The Esplanade, the city’s newest premium-grade office building.

While traditionally legal firms are desk and office bound, Woods Bagot has implemented a hybrid office strategy to encourage new ways of working and interacting.

Project details

Numerous consultation and interviews were conducted to weigh up the decision for HSF to continue its lease on Levels 34, 35 and 36 of the QV1 building – undertaking a full refurbishment – or to relocate to Levels 10 and 11 at One The Esplanade.

HSF opted for a fresh start and the new office incorporates client space, cellular offices, an open plan work area, cafe, meeting rooms, communication rooms, respite (wellness and multi-faith) rooms, and back of house facilities.

A key move is positioning the commercial kitchen in the front-of-house client space to support HSF’s strong entertaining experiences for both staff and clients.

There is also an internal stair between the two floors, promoting connectivity while capturing beautiful glimpses from the front of house client space to the back of house workplace below.
