Woods Bagot Principal and Global Sector Leader – Transport, John Prentice, has been officially inducted into the NSW State Design Review Panel, a program led by the Government Architect NSW to champion design excellence across the state.
Inducted on 24 October for a three-year term, Prentice joins an expert cohort of built environment leaders who are entrusted with providing independent, expert design advice on projects of state significance, from major cultural and transport infrastructure to new precincts, education facilities and diverse housing initiatives.
Established in 2018, the State Design Review Panel supports better planning and design outcomes by identifying opportunities and challenges early in the development process. Its guidance not only builds confidence in design quality for decision-makers, but also streamlines assessment and delivery.
Membership of the Panel is highly competitive, with candidates selected for their proven expertise, leadership, and industry recognition.
The Panel’s work is guided by the mission to realise public value through great design, with priorities to share design knowledge, integrate urban design, design with Country, build design capacity, and support a sustainable future. Four work streams focus on climate resilience, housing, great places, and design advisory.
Reflecting on the appointment, Prentice says, “this appointment represents a meaningful opportunity to contribute independent design expertise to city-shaping projects across the state, and in turn, to lift the design quality of State significant projects.”
“I look forward to collaborating with fellow panel members, government and design teams to strengthen the quality of the built environment in NSW.”
