Designed by Woods Bagot for Aqualand Australia, AURA has received gold for the Architecture – Multi Residence (10+ floors) – Constructed category.
The Sydney Design Awards Better Future program provides marketplace recognition across an extensive range of categories and celebrates the creativity and courage of the people and projects who are pioneering their industries through extraordinary design.
Designed by Woods Bagot, AURA embraces the concept of architecture and sculpture with a design that is inspired by the eroded forms and shimmering waters of Sydney Harbour. Gracefully undulating facade creates an illusion that the single structure is divided into four separate towers.
AURA by Aqualand is a landmark mixed-use development redefining luxury living in North Sydney. Completed in mid-2024, it comprises 386 premium residences with interiors by Richards Stanisich and a two-level hospitality precinct operated by Aqualand’s in-house brand, Etymon Projects.
Woods Bagot Principal and Project Lead Jason Fraser says, “We’re honoured to have helped bring AURA by Aqualand to life. This recognition captures the spirit behind our creative concept, which was to create a striking addition to Sydney’s skyline that people are proud to call home.”
Echoing its water-side context, the building’s form is derived from the soft lines of plants and nature characterised by the surrounding deep tree-lined landscape and the curvilinear shoreline of Sydney. Curved and tapering, the buildings’ sculptural and striated form is reminiscent of foreshore sandstone and plays with light in response to the ever-changing nature of the harbour itself.
AURA by Aqualand seeks to create a community within itself while also reconnecting with the surrounding neighbourhood. At street level, a free flowing ground plane opens up the site, blurring the boundary between the neighbouring hotel and enticing the community to enjoy new retail, restaurants and landscape areas.
All awarded projects will be Elevated into the Australian Design Awards – the regional championship awards program.
