The Tang Foundation headquarters is an organization dedicated to education in China. It was founded by Mr. Cyrus Tang, a very successful Chinese-American businessman who was born in China but immigrated to the U.S. in 1950. He was invited back to China in the 1980s and started the China branch of its foundation.
The China branch separates its funds into two main parts – education and tradition Chinese medicine. The headquarters which Woods Bagot designed accommodates its education facilities. The Foundation donates to the top 21 universities in China, namely Beijing University, Ginghua University and Fudan University, etc. The Foundation has an exhibition space that gives each university a chance to exhibit its specialty. It provides a competitive yet friendly environment for educational exchange among them.
The mandate from Mr. Tang is to create a space that is inspiring and different than a museum or a school. He wants the space to be unique and tailored towards the students, not government officials. It is a space where innovation meets collaboration, a place where the “future” is born.
