Principal Richard Fenne Awarded Principal of the Year at 9th Annual Middle East Architect Awards.

Principal Richard Fenne was awarded in the “Principal of the Year” category during the 9th annual Middle East Architect Awards on 29 November 2016. The awards recognise the best projects and people in the architecture community across the Middle East.

“I’m genuinely shocked to have won the award and it’s an absolute privilege to be named Principal of the Year,” said Richard. “I didn’t come prepared to win so it’s a real honour to have been selected by a prestigious group of judges and I appreciate their kind words. It is very poignant for us as it is our 15th year in Dubai so a dual celebration both for me and for Woods Bagot.”

There were various projects from the world’s tallest towers to one-off villas. Individual nominations came from expert designers and fledgling architects just beginning their careers. The Middle East Architect Awards have become the standard of success in the Middle East’s architecture sector.

“As a business we are very much about our people. Whilst I’m one of the principals I couldn’t have achieved this award without the high calibre team behind me. I’m very passionate about developing those future leaders and building a team of absolute top quality designers and young driven people who enjoy what we are doing – delivering the best outcome for our clients.”

The event was attended by other Woods Bagot colleagues including Jonathan French, Principal, Director and Regional Chair, Middle East; Neil MacPhail, Regional Transportation Leader; Daniel Waterhouse, Practice Manager; Julie Knight, Principal; and Jonathan Todd, Commercial Manager.

Addtionally, Matthew Engele, was named "Architect of the Year 2016." Engele was nominated for his work as design director of global architecture while he was at design worldwide partnership (dwp) architecture. Now, Engele will join Woods Bagot Dubai.

French added, "We are extremely pleased that two of our leaders have been recognised by the architectural, engineering and construction community for their contribution to Architectural profession in the Middle East. This is a testament to the quality of our talent in the region and  across our global studio. Both Matt and Richard are hands on architects working closely with our clients to deliver award winning buildings. We congratulate them both."
