Adelaide Convention Centre Redevelopment Stage 2

Zinc Cladding on New East Building of the Adelaide Convention Centre Revealed.

Revealing of the zinc cladding on the new East Building of the Adelaide Convention Centre (ACC) project is currently under way. On completion of the East building, scheduled for October 2017, the ACC facility will be one of the world’s most adaptable and dynamic meeting spaces, entirely connected to the city it serves. This project represents a new generation of Convention Centres which capitalise on Woods Bagot’s multi-sector expertise blurring boundaries between workplace, hospitality and education.

The new East Building is shaped by the unique internal features and embracing panoramic views of Adelaide’s riverbank parklands. In contrast to the buildings around it, the appearance of the new building is inspired by the naturally weathered monolithic rocks that occur in the Australian landscape, like Uluru and Kangaroo Island.

The reddish coloured zinc panels pay homage to the Australian red earth and rock formations and will provide a slightly crinkled, tiled texture to soften the appearance of the large walls.

The new East building incorporates numerous innovative internal “moving parts” to maximise the flexibility of the facility and provide many different configurations and sizes of meeting space. These features include vast arrays of operable walls, two 300 seat auditoria on turntables, and six massive hinged panels of tiered seating that when lifted, reveal a flat floor capable of exhibition or banquet mode events. It also has the ability to provide over 3000 seats during large events and can be subdivided to provide a range of smaller tiered seating venues and meeting rooms to increase the overall facility capacity and enhance the ACC’s ability to attract world-class events.
