Adelaide Convention Centre Redevelopment Stage 1

Convention Center Provides Sense of Place with Reference to Adelaide’s Geology

The design for the new Adelaide Convention Centre (ACC), West Building, or Stage 1, is part of a AUD 3 billion investment plan in the wider district providing links to the riverbank, health and entertainment precincts. Bringing extensive knowledge about the site gained from the previous ACC expansion in 2001, along with global expertise in convention centre design, Woods Bagot and London-based architecture firm Vx3 designed a building apropos to the local vernacular with references to surrounding geological forms, stratification and colours. The building is designed to have two different functions, either as a single, unified facility or as three standalone venues with dedicated arrival points and distinct identities. The expansion incorporates interconnecting meeting rooms, flexible plenary halls and function facilities, and now goes over active railway lines to create a new city edge.
