Woods Bagot’s Hong Kong studio recently kicked off its second-year scholarship program for the Hong Kong Polytechnic University students at the environment and interior design faculty in 2017. Since 2006, Hong Kong Polytechnic University has consistently been ranked as one of the top design schools in the world by BusinessWeek magazine.
This year happens to be Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s 80th Anniversary and an important milestone for this design education and research hub.
The Woods Bagot Scholarship Program developed for Hong Kong Polytechnic University includes an intensive design agenda on “Urban Revitalization and Cultural Exploration”. As creator of the program, Woods Bagot’s principal Billy Ip was invited to judge the students’ final presentations.
“It was great to see the students’ presentations and have the opportunity to talk about their projects in detail. As architects this is also instructive for us, bringing fresh new ideas into our practice.”
"This is a key milestone for Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Woods Bagot is delighted to be their influential design partner for this second-year scholarship program and to be part of their blossoming. We are glad to have the opportunity to offer a tailored internship program for the students," said Woods Bagot Principal Billy Ip.
During the tailored-design program, Ip gave valuable presentation on work culture at Woods Bagot and the challenges of construction. Senior Associate Liang Tan also gave an instructive presentation on branding and how it is relevant to the architecture world.
A few designers from the Hong Kong studio shared their thoughts on career life, including Associate Emilia Mason who talked with humor about the difficulty of handling a client’s brief. Both presentations were a great success among students who were excited to get some advice from architecture professionals in such a friendly atmosphere. According to Ip, the scholarship continues to be the most significant contribution to the student’s academic education.
“We hope this scholarship provides opportunities for the next young generations to pursue their design dream and bring them success in their future professional lives.”
Award ceremony will take place at Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s Graduate Ceremony in June 2017. The awarded student will get the opportunity to complete a summer internship program at Woods Bagot’s Hong Kong studio, as well as the studios in Shanghai or Beijing to experience the local working culture.
