Studio Leader and Senior Project Manager

Woods Bagot is seeking an exceptional Senior Project Manager and Studio Leader for the San Francisco studio. This person will be a proven leader with experience on large and small scale design projects, have the ability to solve technical issues, and work collaboratively with others through the conceptualization of ideas in a highly connected environment.  This well-rounded professional and possesses a designer’s heart and can lead high performance teams in the production of high-quality projects. 

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, creative, collaborative, and resourceful leader who excels in conceptualizing and translating ideas to exceptional design outcomes. Someone that is nimble and possesses a solid understanding of design and architecture standards and can work collaboratively to manage clients and other key stake holders regardless of geography.  The position is dedicated to helping clients achieve business value by applying tailored solutions with Woods Bagot’s research, design, and experience. 

Skills that are Relevant:

Project Focus:

  • Assist to write proposals for new work and additional services on existing projects as well as respond to requests for qualifications and proposals.
  • Manages project fee (responsible for project projections, profitability, invoicing additional services and resource management)
  • Manage project scope and schedules to ensure execution and delivery based on executed proposal or contract; notify clients of add-services as appropriate.
  • Monitor project performance, conduct WIP reviews, and take proactive action to ensure projects are meeting or exceeding financial performance objectives.
  • Demonstrate strong technical knowledge and understanding of construction
  • Work with resource planning and finance staff to ensure future project resources are maintained throughout the life of the project within Woods Bagot’s platforms.
  • Provide contract administrative and negotiation support to the principals and senior staff.
  • Develop and manage project schedule and milestones to ensure project is on time.
  • Maintain client communications and contact, in particular for scope of work and obtain necessary client approvals.
  • Conduct team meetings with staff and other key project team members to go over financial, schedule and operational milestones.
  • Review and approve project expenses such as employee time, employee expenses, and project costs including sub-consultants.
  • Management of project risk within the parameters established by Woods Bagot.
  • Mentor staff to help build well-rounded professional skills and awareness
  • Expertise in putting together well-coordinated full sets of permitting and construction documents.
  • Thorough understanding / fluency with building codes and permitting processes

Studio Focus:

  • Provides leadership and support to create an environment for the optimal delivery of quality project outcomes through our people, platform systems and processes.
  • Responsible for effective BST resourcing of studio staff against forecasted revenue and project milestones in collaboration with project PMs and studio finance team
  • Responsible for conducting Project WIP reviews with project PMs and anticipates accurately studio revenue forecasts at mid-month and month end
  • Coordinates with PM’s and Finance teams to timely submit invoicing, collect payments, and manage accounts payable
  • Responsible for weekly management stream meetings to coordinate revenue and resourcing and reporting to Studio Executive on any issues and actions requiring decision/approval.
  • Advising the Executive Group on becoming aware of any circumstances which may lead to a claim being made against Woods Bagot for non-performance or negligence or of other circumstance which may have significant legal of financial repercussions on the Firm. The taking of appropriate action to correct or minimize the impact of such claims
  • Monthly reporting to the Global Finance and Management stream on the studio performance


  • A bachelor’s degree in architecture or a closely related field (or the international equivalent)
  • California Architects license a must
  • LEED accreditation preferred
  • 15+ years of experience and progressive responsibilities in all phases of architecture and substantial experience in the innovative design of complex, large & small scale projects in the US
  • Specific experience and expertise in workplace &/or interior design a plus
  • High level skills and experience in conceptual design phases and instigation of projects including high quality design research, sketching, illustration and rendering abilities
  • Proven track record of achieving results through influencing and relationship skills
