Xin Liyi Chongqing Riverfront Office Building, China

The site is located on the riverfront of Chongqing’s new business district of Jiangbeizui. Jialing River is immediately to the south and Central Park to the north. There are extraordinary uninterrupted views of Chongqing downtown across the river.

The key design objectives are to provide premium grade office space, rational planning, a community link through the site to the river and an exciting elevation to the city of Chongqing amongst the emerging nondescript elevations of the precinct.

The 36m height difference between south and north edges of the site is a strong contextual influence that this proposal addresses with a steep pedestrian link similar to traditional Chongqing villages. The slope is turned into a dynamic feature through the creation of public terraces and concurrently puts a face in front of the parking levels.

This proposal positions two towers so that the view corridor is maximised for tenants as well as the neighbouring buildings situated behind the site.  The facade responds to particular functional, geological and cultural notions and creates a faceted but harmonious architecture.
