Woods Bagot proposed to provide the design leadership to enable the University of Sydney’s Faculty of Business and Economics to build and sustain the leading learning community for business, economics and government in Australia and the region.
The design team relished the opportunity to collaborate with the University of Sydney due to their progressive approach to teaching and learning.
The design moves away from the traditional approach of separating learning spaces to create a teaching, learning and research “terrain” – a continuous environment which responds to the needs of a 21st century student who, having grown up in the digital age, expects discussion and collaboration, a sense of community, and the ability to interact in physical and virtual environments.
Design Leader and established education sector expert, Georgia Singleton led a design process that not only meets the University’s academic aspirations but also provides an extremely efficient floorplate on an irregular-shaped site.
The scheme also contributes positively to the urban realm by creating a sense of place whilst respecting the surrounding residential properties and the City of Sydney’s planning guidelines. Georgia has recently made contributions to significant education projects in Australia, Asia and North America.
