The new student space at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is a direct reflection of a next generation learning environment.
The student areas in Blocks A and B at the Haymarket Campus have provided a more fluid and flexible social environment with informal learning spaces ideal for group collaboration.
To understand and ensure the space reflect exactly what the students wanted, in-depth interviews were undertaken with vast numbers of undergraduates.
"Inherent to the design is the University’s requirement to incorporate a ‘sticky campus’ mentality - providing spaces where students can socialise, relax and study" says Georgia Singleton, Woods Bagot Principal.
New features of the space include:
- Flexible environments for informal learning and group
collaboration, the ‘sandpit’
- Spaces to relax or study, the ‘sunroom’
- Outdoor spaces, courtyard and the ‘shed’
- Latest technology, SMART boards, wi-fi, plasma screens
to 'plug in and go'
- Union shop, the ‘Hub’.
