The Rocket Tower, Robina, Gold Coast

The nature of this site is such that a significant building is required to act as both a visual marker for the greater Robina area as well as providing an anchor for the proposed commercial precinct. The resulting building will act as both beacon and way-finder and as such, the architecture is both dynamic and expressive, while allowing a viable floor plate and uncompromised planning.

Woods Bagot’s proposed 16-storey building offers a large open floor plate with a high degree of flexibility to allow division into smaller tenancies. The resulting building will be one of the tallest commercial office building on the Gold Coast and such has a degree of prestige and notoriety attached.

Retail outlets have been incorporated into the building base to promote activity and inclusion. Not only does this provide goods and services to those who occupy the building, it also promotes passing pedestrians to stop, brows and interact with the retail businesses. By providing day-care facilities, bike lockers and showers the design increases the social response of a building to a growing set of needs.

The public open space is broken up into a series of minor and major thoroughfares which promote pedestrian comfort, safety and frequency. The built form is broken up into smaller elements which both promotes and enhances the open spaces.

The building embraces ESD principles with a desire to meet the 4 Green Star rating requirements. The built form responds to the specific climatic conditions of the area. To this end the under croft of the building and external circulation space make maximum use of the shade provided by the tower. The orientation promotes the best use of the cooler breeze coming off the lake. There is a mix of both shaded and sheltered, sun filled area over the site which make the best use of the subtropical design ethos.
