The vision of this project is to create a development which represents the culture and climate of Suzhou. The site planning is developed from traditional Suzhou garden with geometric building volumes form a perimeter wall. The landscape courtyard tends to be more free form. The design creates a dynamic inner space, the buffer zone is eliminated and the building’s internal elevations take the free form landscape into the third dimension. Two main types of approach were applied to facade design. The perimeter facades are treated in a contemporary fashion depicting excitement and dynamics of film industry as well as the content of the complex. The main notion is pixel/frame as a basic component of a motion picture therefore facades are also component based and modular. Second approach applied to buildings in the ‘village’ area develops the Suzhou ‘broken ice’ pattern into three types of facades.
Specialized retail and a wide range of entertainment facilities will create a unique destination, a sleepless venue. A tailored combination of functions aims to activate the complex throughout the whole day. One component leads to the next, seamless transitions make for an easy way finding.
