Soho Sanlitun was a proposal for a mixed use development to be located on a high profile site within the second ring road of Beijing.
The project brief was for a 460,000m2 development consisting of retail, residential and office components. As a landmark development of a major scale, the design had to carefully consider the macro scale issues particularly in terms of its urban context. Issues such as entry addresses for each component, mass relationships and streetscape needed careful consideration.
With an important main road address in Beijing, the office towers proposed for this project adopted a textured signature façade solution. Rather than using applied elements to have the towers express themselves as landmark buildings, the design response used the overall tower facades to create the development signature. This resulted in a unique woven expression being developed that also tied back into the podium landscape response.
