Princess Alexandra Chronic Care Centre, Brisbane

The 4,000 m² outpatient facility for the Princess Alexandra Hospital will accommodate Renal, Mental Health, Gastroenterology and Diabetic services over three floors, with a focus on the circulation and systems within the spaces.

Utilising the design features of the existing building (also designed by Woods Bagot), the fitout will bring an elevated level of care, along with spacious light filled areas.

A balance between patient and staff areas was a driving priority, along with standardisation of treatment facilities across all areas. The resulting fitout offers maximum flexibility and security for the staff, while encouraging visual and departmental interaction through shared facilities.

Standardisation of offices, workstations and utility areas allows for an emphasis on breakout and café spaces for workers in highly stressed environments. Finishes and fixtures have been selected to decrease the ‘clinical’ appearance of the patient areas, and create a feeling of wellbeing and comfort.
