National Centre for Health and Wellbeing

The Australian Catholic University's National Centre for Health and Wellbeing is a low-energy-use research and teaching facility that will aim to create new standards in energy efficient design, while providing an attractive social and working environment. It is designed to integrate general teaching and high-level research by enhancing collaboration and creativity.

The new building will provide new teaching spaces directed towards accommodating the University’s expanded health related courses in nursing, exercise science, occupational therapy, and psychology.

The design of the building embodies the concept of the vertical campus. A central artium provides daylight penetration, visual connectedness and clear way-finding, a cafe bookshop will be open to the public on the ground floor and a landscaped roof terrace on level seven will provide a social focal point for staff and students.

The building will also contain many sustainable features such as a floorplate which allows a high level of daylight penetration, a facade integrated air intake system, rainwater harvesting, six integrated wind turbines and solar hot water heating panels. The building is designed to achieve a 6 star Greenstar Education Rating.
