The vision of the renovation project for the historic Dong Hai Plaza Building is to create a dynamic international standard lifestyle centre that contributes positively to the re-establishment of the Nanjing East Road precinct as the premiere retail and entertainment district in China and an international destination for travellers to the City.

The original Art Deco style building has now been transformed into this through urban regeneration to retain it’s historic cultural value and is a successful example of multi storey urban regeneration in Shanghai and China.

The original building facade was remodelled to its original form through careful historic research and on site investiagations whist internally, upgrading of the buildings structure, mechanical and safety systems were installed to bring the building up to current needs.

Plaza 353 is now a heritage landmark property on Shanghai’s Municipal Protection List and has become a Gen-Y hang-out hub.
