The Nangang Hotel, located in Taipei, Taiwan, acts in concert with an adjacent office tower to form a gateway to a new residential master plan development.
The hotel’s massing is conceived of as a series of folding planes that interlock with each other and allow important program elements such as a spa and high-end restaurant to slip relative to each other, responding to the massing of the adjacent office tower. The two towers are connected by a horizontal plane that helps to underscore the gateway concept, and also serves as a marker for the hotel and office entries.
The 21-storey tower consists of 192 rooms above a podium containing amenities such as restaurant, spa, meeting rooms and an outdoor swimming pool. The building is capped by a restaurant and lounge that take advantage of views to the nearby river and Taipei 101.
It is anticipated construction will commence at the end of 2010.
