Woods Bagot was appointed to masterplan Leicester Market Square One and design ‘The Food Cube’.
The project comprises of a new 5,800m2 building, a 2,600m2 refurbishment of a 200 year old Grade II Listed Building and the development of a new 10,700m2 fully serviced public ‘square’.
The Food Cube will foster a vibrant public space where it is needed most, giving Leicester the opportunity to create a market that will anchor the social life of its community. From the revitalisation of a declining retail zone, this new market will be at the centre of efforts to strengthen neighbourhoods with a vital public space.
This landmark project will help to shape the next generation of food retail and learning environments, which is emerging as a viable alternative to conventional economic development projects.
