Innovation Campus Masterplan Review Wollongong University, NSW

Baulderstone commissioned Woods Bagot to undertake a review of the Masterplan of Wollongong University’s new Innovation Campus with a vision to creating a collaborative research and learning environment. The focus of the review was to increase the commercial desirability and competitiveness of the campus by strengthening the structure and character of the urban design solutions.

The University wanted the Campus, detached from the main university with its parkland setting, to maintain similar naturalistic environment with a distinctive character of its own. Woods Bagot’s analysis focused on the optimisation of development parcels for flexibility of future uses considering future trends in education facilities. Creating an innovative urban environment consistent with the vision for the campus.

The urban investigation proposed the strengthening hierarchy of the open spaces, vehicular and pedestrian networks to assist with orientation and creating a focus on major axis and nodal points. An overlay of potential environmentally sustainable initiatives was also considered for the site located adjacent to a reserve area of sensitive dune ecology.
