Woods Bagot and Zhejiang Architectural Design Research Institute were announced as winners of the Hangzhou Normal University Cang Qian Campus competition for the Hangzhou Planning Bureau.

The Woods Bagot scheme brought forward the concepts for a new Chinese university, combining private and public enterprises. The University will be a new prototype of Chinese tertiary design, one that introduces the ‘new education’ model in a Chinese context and introduces the university-complex concept (combining education, cultural, high-tech business, tourism, leisure, habitat, business, R&D and exhibition).

The international jury panel concluded: "The university city plan needs to introduce university-complex concept, but also to give high education function, to protect wetland environment, water management, arrange traffic. The key is the college grouping layout, innovative management pattern, balancing the openness and security, creating an unique identity-symbol and to showcase Hangzhou through new architecture".
