Guizhou China Mobile Command and Dispatch Centre, China

The new China Mobile Command and Dispatch Centre in Guiyang city, Guizhou province, will be located in the new commercial district of Jinyang adjacent to the new local government complex.

The 24,000 m² site has a diagonal fall of nine metres from corner to corner presenting significant access challenges. A thirty-metre landscape setback and the local planning department’s preference for the building to be placed high in the low corner adds to the complexity of the design solution in plan and section. Add to this the client’s concern for Feng Shui principles and a tight program, the Woods Bagot Shanghai studio was thrilled to receive planning approval and client sign off while maintaining excellent working relationships with all stakeholders.

The major function of the project is an office tower including several levels of telecommunication machinery rooms.  Woods Bagot won the project via an international competition with two elliptical towers and a free form podium between the towers.  The siteworks, landscaping, north tower and the podium are in phase 1; the south west tower is in phase 2.  The total area of the development is 40,000 m² to be built over these two stages.
