The China International Copyright Trading Centre (CICC) is a symbol of China’s progress in creativity and intellectual property. Beijing identifies internationally with its unique collection of traditional and modern architecture, the CICC adds to this collection in creating the new cultural icon of Beijing. The CICC is situated on Beijing’s main artery, Jian Guo Road. The design capitalises on the site’s high exposure in providing a distinctive sense of place, a place for gathering, provoking, exchanging, promoting and celebration. Hence creating the ‘ultimate destination’. The building progressively contributes back to the Beijing public by giving back large public spaces for cultural activities. Distinctive themes of ‘digital media’ are celebrated throughout the complex, through media walls and event spaces. The Architecture’s striking form is a manifestation of the CICC’s unique interlocking programs. The multiple functions include indoor and outdoor public spaces, cultural exchange, exhibition, trading, cinematheque, convention, commerce and retreat. Like the Intellectual property aspirations of China, the CICC will be a leader, one that embraces culture, design excellence, and sustainability.
