Changsha Xiangtian Plaza Mixed Use, Hunan, China

The site is located in the Changsha new government administration district. The project is a mixed-use complex over a whole city block including a retail mall, office tower, 5 star hotel, high end residential, entertainment precinct and a public plaza.

There is the 10 meters of fall from south to north which amounts to an 8% slope. The design is required by the authorities to include a 20,000 m² public park to the west of the site and opposite a new government building. Fire truck access across the site provides a major challenge to the planning.

The mall facade panels are inspired by the facets of a diamond, the theme for the complex. The facade is lit up with LED’s behind the panels to create different moods. The media roof will attract shoppers and clearly mark both main entries of the shopping mall, appearing as one connected object between the mall and the boutique block.

The park design will host entertainment day and night to provide branding and attraction for the complex. A water feature, outdoor amphitheatre and bar street, attracts people to sit and relax, and give the project a wider regional presence.
